Voyage en Perse, written by French painter Eugène Flandin and illustrated by the author and the architect Pascal Coste, is highly regarded for its precise illustrations and its detailed accounts of history, archaeology, art, architecture and daily and court life during the Qajar period. The tomb of the poet Hafiz in Shiraz, rebuilt since depicted here, continues to be an important pilgrimage site for the poet's many devotees, who come to contemplate and recite his poetry.
