Top 5 library domes in the world, number 1
My final Top 5 domed library is a bit of a celebrity, having appeared in a few movies. The domed building is part of one of the older libraries on the list: the Oxford University library was established circa 1320.
Number 1 – The Radcliffe Camera at the Bodleian Library
The Radcliffe Camera (also known as ‘Radder’ in the 1930s) was built between 1737 and 1749 as housing for the Radcliffe Science Library (which has since outgrown the Camera). Now a reading room, it is the earliest English example of a circular library, with our own domed reading room another example in this tradition.
