Your State Library, your sayTop 5 library domes in the world
We’re a bit dome-focused at the State Library right now, what with our domed reading room turning 100 in November (in case you hadn’t heard). You might have seen something about our Dome Centenary celebrations, or maybe read a story about the dome? In the midst of all this excitement, I thought I’d take a moment to tip my hat to some of the other great library domes in the world. Here’s the first of my Top 5.
Number 5 – The Manchester Central Library
This whole library is circular, and there’s a lovely domed rotunda in the middle. It was built between 1930 and 1934, and it is the headquarters for the Manchester Library and Information Service. It’s currently closed for refurbishment, but is due to open again in 2014.
